Who’s Spanking The Rankings?: The ADCC Countdown… & CJI As Well Now I Guess? 😬👇

Timer from emailcountdowntimer.com

Arguably, the most controversial feature of the Craig Jones Invitational (also known as the BDCC 🤠) is that it’s been scheduled for the exact same weekend as ADCC - so this nifty little countdown timer ☝️ is now a 2-for-1 special! 😎

It’s already forced some of the world’s best grapplers to take a long, hard look at themselves and decide if they want to compete for glory & prestige🥇 or big ol’ stacks of dead presidents 💵 - the size of which the grappling world has never seen 🤯

Let’s have a quick look 👀👇 at who’s already decided to follow Craig to try to get that cheddar 🧀 and put their ADCC dreams on hold for another couple of years (…if they’ll be allowed back, that is 😬)

CJI 2024 - Under 80kg division

Andrew Tackett, Nicky Ryan, Jozef Chen, Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa

CJI 2024 - Over 80kg division

William Tackett, Luke Rockhold, Nicky Rodriguez, Mason Fowler, Roberto Jiminez, Joao Gabriel Rocha, Victor Hugo

CJI 2024 - Super Fights

Craig Jones vs. Gabi Garcia (#finally), Ffion Davies vs. ???, Elon Musk? vs. Zuck? (no idea, but something big is cooking according to Craig on the JRE Podcast)

These lineups are probably only correct for the next 15 seconds  as it’s all moving pretty fast at the moment 💨 - if you want to stay updated with who’s being announced for the CJI - check out this link.

WHATS HAPPENING?

CJI vs ADCC - The Short & Sweet Of It

Unless you’ve been living and grappling in a cave for the last few weeks (shout to all you cave dwellers 🙌 ), you’ve probably already got some idea about the shenanigans at play - so I’ll make this brief.

After years of being a top-tier competitor for the ADCC - Craig Jones, the self-declared 2nd-class grappler and 1st-class troll 👺, has come out swinging in the last few weeks by launching his own event to rival the ADCC - the Craig Jones Invitational.

Citing poor athlete pay (and his inability to ever win it 😂) as his primary motivation to go head-to-head with no-gi grappling’s most coveted tournament, Craig has secured around 3 million dollars from an anonymous donor 🕵️‍♂️ to hand out some of the biggest paydays in grappling history 🤑

No stranger to a bit of sh*t-stirring & general controversy, Craig’s pet tournament 🐈 hasn’t just set out to be another event on the grappling calendar 🗓, it’s fired some direct shots at ADCC by:

  1. Running on the exact same weekend 😬

  2. Signing numerous athletes who were already confirmed as ADCC competitors 🏃‍♂️

  3. Paying every athlete competing a minimum of $1 more than they’d get for winning their ADCC division 😂

  4. Literally saying he’s looking to disrupt the ADCC and poking fun at Mo Jassim wherever possible 😎

However, for all its very intentional similarities - the CJI will also be looking to do some key things very differently.

The Quick Hitters (from the world outside CJI 🌎)

QUESTION TIME

What Keeps You Up At 2 am?

Rivalry. It’s the essence of our sport.

At the grassroots level - we all bring that competitive spirit to test ourselves against our training partners in a friendly rivalry which can push all of us to get better 👯‍♀️

And when it comes to those athletes at the top of the game, we tune in to watch the red-hot rivalries between the best of the best to figure out who’s actually … well, THE best 😎🏆

Now, with the CJI taking on ADCC - we have a rivalry brewing on a whole other level 🤯

Craig’s funky-fresh new format, dripping with dollar bills - VS - Mo’s classic tried and tested ‘Olympics of grappling’.

So, assuming you aren’t some double-screen-watching degen-style crypto trader 📈 - you’ll only be tuning into one event.

Which one is it? 👇

This week’s big question ⬇️

CJI or ADCC - Which One Are You Watching?

(assuming you CAN'T watch both 😏)

Last time we asked you - “Who's Your Favourite Online Coach?

Lachlan Giles (aka Velachiraptor or … aka Ant-Man, depending on who you ask) comes out as a clear winner here.

I’m still a big fan of Danaher’s stuff, but I’d agree that Lachy’s teachings - particularly the courses on his Submeta platform - are super thorough, well-structured and very practical 🔥

The Weekly Fix

Last time, we were shown how to keep your neck primed and strong against the rigours of BJJ (and daily desk life! 🖥).

This week, we get a quick tip on improving our use of one of the most useful bits of gear in the grappler’s toolbox - the kettlebell 🔔

 Let’s have a look at this week’s fix 🔧👇

How To Improve Your Kettlebell Training!

When you are lifting Kettlebells - you gotta make sure you come at it correctly!

Many folks out there in Fitnessland 🎢 have been leading you astray with poor kettlebell positioning - making both your wrists and shoulders weaker (and more prone to injury) 😬.

By adjusting your grip, as JT demonstrates in this video ☝️you will be able to hold bigger weights more safely. Make this tiny technique adjustment and feel the power increase course through your veins 💪.

Check it out! 🔥 🎥 ⬆️

Boom! 💥 If you liked this week’s fix and are thinking you could really benefit from a world-class BJJ-specific strength and flexibility program, then you should probably …

The Meme Open Mat:

Can’t escape the CJI madness this week team - even our memes have caught the fever 🤒 👇

Craig Rogan is rumoured for the SuperFight 🤯

It’s sure gonna take some twistin’…

The younglings never stood a chance…

You like memes huh!? 😎 (of course you do).

Well, we have bucketloads 🪣  of premium, high-grade OG memes for you to share with your BJJ crew, or simply peruse at your scrolling leisure👇

LET’S GET TECHNICAL

The Good Option:

Two of the most exciting deserters prospects to have burned up their ADCC ticket for a chance at the CJI $1 million dollar pot are Andrew Tackett and Jozef Chen.

Both of these gents will be scrapping it out in the -80kg bracket, and if you’re wondering what that might look like - well, look no further as they’ve faced off before👇

Both guys are great competitors with some slick BJJ that we can all learn from 🔥

Grab a cuppa ☕️ and notepad 📝 👇

The Not-So-Good Option:

Craig’s on for the match of his life in the upcoming CJI SuperFight against the decorated and formidable Gabi Garcia.

He’s under-sized, under-juiced and likely to be underneath - so he’s taken to picking up some unconventional technique from Master Ken to try and get the upper hand 🥴

The sport is definitely changing huh…👇

YOU WIN, WE WIN!

Can’t Misspell Commyounity without YOU 🫵

Rightio - all I’m saying is that the wheels are in motion, and talks are underway for our first giveaway here at TNS.

It’s gonna be in your best interests (for a few different reasons) to have referred at least one BJJ buddy using the button below 👇

And it’ll be in your even better interests 🤔 to refer a few more while you’re at it.

Let’s leave it there for now… ⬇️

…with more to come!

How'd We Go?

Are we on the money? Or are we lacking some pizzazz? The rule is though - if you think we missed the mark, you've gotta write in and let us know why. It's only fair!
